Experience the lives of the fisherman in Vung Vieng Fishing Village
Vung Vieng Fishing Village is located in Bai Tu Long Bay, close to Cam Pha and the Van Don Commercial Port, around 25km from the mainland.
Travelers will be captivated by the lives of the fishermen who live here in the scenic fishing village. It is home to thousands of others whose lives revolve around the bounty of the sea, and they are a simple but happy people.
Vung Vieng fishing village was formed in the early 20th century. At the time, it was a small harbour for boats. Its special topography and location offerd a good place to dock and provided refuge from storms. Over time, fishermen began to reside here. To visit Vung Vieng, travelers hop aboard a rowing boat (the same used by the village’s inhabitants), and pass through Hang Cao – the gate to the fishing village. Following this, is a passage through Luon Cave – a special cave in the shape of a bow which opens up at the foot of the island.
The community complex is located in the centre of the village. In this complex, there is a large house for community meetings, festivals and other special events. There is an exhibition house that displays photos and tools of the local fisherman, offering a chance for tourists to explore life in the community. The is also a building where children from the fishing village would come to to primary school. This was run from 2008 to June 2014.
From here, travelers can visit Devil Face Island and the Bay Gieng Area, while fishing in Vung Ha. They can also see the primitive forest on Tra Ban Island, the caves at Van Don Island, and the small, unspoilt beaches on Ngoc Vung Island or Van Gio island. These beaches are fantastic and allow travelers to explore the beauty of nature.
